COLUMBUS, OH June 3, 1999 - Executive Jet announced today that FlightSafety International has established a FlightSafety Center at Executive Jet's operational headquarters at Port Columbus Airport.
The new center is designed to provide convenient access for Executive Jet's flight crews to meet demand for over 6,000 hours of Citation V-Ultra flight simulation training in 1999. The facility will be comprised of classrooms, briefing rooms, and customer support facilities and up to six simulators. Training began June 1, 1999, using a Cessna Citation V-Ultra flight simulator, which is certified, at the FAA's Level "D".
The first advanced, full flight simulator will provide initial, transition and recurrent training. Additional simulators will be installed in the center's simulator high-bay within the next two years.
"This ready access to training for Executive Jet crews at the new FlightSafety Center will allow Executive Jet to train more pilots to our demanding standards in order to meet the growth of the NetJetsĀ® program," said Richard G. Smith III, Executive Jet's executive vice president.
"Being associated with FlightSafety continues to demonstrate Executive Jet's commitment to safety and to provide the best in customer service in the general aviation industry. FlightSafety provides Executive Jet with the most advanced flight training using aviation's newest technology."
The new FlightSafety Center will be located at Executive Jet's current facility in Columbus, OH. In August 1998, Executive Jet broke ground to begin construction of a new operational center at Port Columbus International Airport. The approximately 200,000 square foot, $25 million facility is scheduled to open this fall.
With the introduction of an advanced Citation V-Ultra full flight simulator at Executive Jet's operational center, the Columbus facility brings the total number of FlightSafety training locations to eight for the operators of Citation aircraft.
Executive Jet manages the world's largest fleet of business jets, over 218 aircraft worldwide, with 375 more aircraft on order, and employs over 1,500 people, half of whom are pilots. In 1999 Executive Jet operations staff will schedule and coordinate more than 150,000 flights.
"Executive Jet is enjoying tremendous success because of the NetJets fractional ownership program," Smith said. "As a result, we will continue to hire aggressively in all areas of our business to satisfy the increase in customer demand. We anticipate hiring an additional 650 pilots and 100 support staff in areas such as product delivery, maintenance and administration by year end 2000."
Executive Jet's Chairman Richard Santulli introduced the concept of fractional aircraft ownership in 1986, and the popularity of the company's NetJets programs has surged in this decade. NetJets allows individuals and corporations the opportunity to purchase a fractional interest in a business jet, using only the hours they need, with guaranteed and predictable fixed costs, making the program the most responsible way to own a business aircraft today. Established in 1951, FlightSafety is the world's premiere training organization for most of the world's commercial pilots. Flight Safety's company headquarters is located at New York's LaGuardia Airport at the Marine Air Terminal.
Executive Jet is a Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. company.
