Of all the events that bring the world’s high net worth jetsetters together to network and relax in style, the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most exciting and glamorous. Taking place this year from the 24th to the 27th of May, Monte Carlo is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors on a host of luxury yachts and private jets for one of the most prestigious sporting events in existence.

The History of the Monaco Grand Prix

The principality’s first Grand Prix was held in 1929 under the rule of Prince Louis II.  Widely considered to be one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world, the Monaco Grand Prix makes up the ‘Triple Crown’ (the three most famous motor races in the world) along with the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The course is also recognised as one of the most challenging on the F1 circuit, demanding perfectly precise driving, technical excellence and unwavering bravery. Over the years spectators have witnessed some of the most exciting moments in F1. Past winners have gained fame and glory for their victories, most famously, Aryton Senna, who had six wins at Monaco, while Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher have both won the event five times.

The Monaco Grand Prix Circuit

Has largely followed the same route since its conception. Spectators can watch the event with a bird’s eye view from the city as the drivers wind through the narrow city streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine, passing by the famous harbour where visitors look on from their superyachts.

With constant elevation changes, narrow roads, plenty of tight corners and a famous tunnel section, crashes occur regularly. This danger is certainly part of the course’s appeal, providing a thrilling and adrenaline-fuelled experience for spectators, As a result the Monaco Grand Prix has been known to produce unexpected and shocking upsets.
