Committed to Sustainability
We strive to help our community develop in a sustainable manner
As the leader in private aviation, we are fully committed to reducing the environmental footprint made by NetJets. Therefore, we have created a multi-tiered programme to address sustainability while continuing to examine all aspects of our business with environmental impact in mind.
INVESTING IN THE
REDUCTION OF WASTE AND EMISSIONS
NETJETS + WASTEFUEL
We have made a significant investment in WasteFuel®, a next-generation waste-to-fuel business that uses proven technology to convert municipal waste into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). We will also be purchasing a minimum of 100 million gallons of WasteFuel’s SAF over the next 10 years. To further our sustainability efforts, we will partner with WasteFuel and Prime Infra to establish a biorefinery in Manila, Philippines, and four additional facilities in the near future.
A MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WAY TO FLY
Our position in the private aviation market comes with the responsibility to drive awareness about and encourage action for important issues industrywide.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared with conventional jet fuel. To begin, NetJets committed to purchasing enough SAF to account for all flights out of both San Francisco and Columbus, Ohio. This totals up to 3 million gallons of SAF—an unprecedented volume of sustainable fuel in the private aviation space. Now we are extremely proud to be the first private aviation company to buy a stake in the production of SAF with our new partnership with WasteFuel.
Blue Skies Carbon Offset Programme
NetJets launched the Blue Skies programme to allow Owners a way to seamlessly purchase the equivalent amount of carbon credits to ensure their flight activity is carbon neutral. Through this global programme, we partner with ClimateCare to directly support carbon projects that align to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Since 2012, our European operations have been carbon neutral, going above and beyond European Union regulations. NetJets will offset its administrative and training flights in the U.S. beginning in 2021, amounting to 1,600 flights annually.
REVIEW OUR PROGRESS
The following metrics are highlights of these collective efforts in Europe over the last six months:
- A 61% increase in Blue Skies enrollment. The Blue Skies programme encourages Owners worldwide to take responsibility for the environmental impact of their flight by seamlessly purchasing the equivalent amount of carbon credits to ensure their flight activity is carbon neutral
- 4,724 metric tons of CO2 offset from October 2020 through March 2021, and over 1 million metric tons total
- NetJets Europe will begin purchasing SAF in 2021
