Flying During the COVID-19 Pandemic

NetJets' Answer: As we continue to complete hundreds of flights a week, we do it while taking every precaution possible. We’ve appointed a COVID-19 Joint Response Team that consists of experts from across our business to help identify and mitigate risk. Our approach includes the following measures:

• Travel restrictions based on guidance from U.S. Department of State, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO)
• Pre-flight passenger screening
• COVID-19 antibody testing for NetJets employees
• A multi-tiered aircraft disinfecting program
• Social distancing measures that include:
  • Altering crew-passenger-employee interactions
  • Providing face coverings for all crewmembers
  • Limiting commercial travel for crewmembers

NetJets’ Answer: We have made a significant investment—approximately $12M this year—in a multi-tiered aircraft cleaning program. (That’s more than some private jet charter companies have in annual revenue.) This program includes treating our aircraft interiors with ClearCabin, an antimicrobial barrier that provides lasting protection from various bacteria, germs, and viruses like COVID-19. Its durability comes from the molecular bond it forms with surfaces once cured. As a safeguard, NetJets reapplies ClearCabin every 90 days.

NetJets’ Answer: Many travelers have a common misconception about the air on the aircraft—they often think it is not refreshed, but rather recirculated. All of our aircraft replace cabin air with fresh outside air every two to four minutes, depending on the fleet. For comparison, most office buildings only do this every 15 to 20 minutes.

NetJets’ Answer: Our goal is to enable social distancing and drastically limit commercial travel for crewmembers. By clustering aircraft at base locations where we have a high concentration of crewmembers, we enable crew to report for duty and return home via their personal vehicle or a NetJets aircraft as often as possible rather than by commercial airlines. Additionally, all crew travel is closely monitored; those exposed in any manner are prohibited from entering NetJets facilities and aircraft for 14 days and until they are no longer symptomatic.

During stay-at-home orders, a work-from-home program was established for a vast majority of our office employees. For those who need to report to the office to complete their duties, and as all employees return via a phased approach, we have taken extra steps to mitigate risks with additional disinfecting methods and increased spatial distance. All employees, including our pilots and flight attendants, know that they do not need to worry about their paycheck if they require quarantine and/or medical attention due to a COVID-19 diagnosis.
